History of Greenwich Lawn Bowling
2007 - OUR 67th YEAR

In 1940 George Stevenson and Joseph Dietrich built the green in Bruce Park. George was the Parks Department Head and an avid bowler. Since then, the Greenwich Lawn Bowls Club has held many games and events. The Greenwich Department of Parks and Recreation maintains the green and provides a club house where our game equipment is kept.
The club provides a summer campership to the Town's Dept. of Social Services and we donated to the Hurricane Katrina Flood Relief. Also, two bluebird houses were put up near our green.

TOURNAMENTS -
For 65 years, male and female members of the Greenwich Lawn Bowls Club have hosted tournaments with clubs from Bridgeport and New York.

On July 7th-8th, we will host the Paul Motta Pairs with the Northeast Division.

Greenwich bowlers with ages ranging from their 20's to their 90's have traveled to Delaware, Virginia, California, New Jersey, and Bridgeport to compete in matches. In 2005, Greenwich sent 6 bowlers to compete at the Central Park Bowling Green and 4 to Bridgeport.

SUNSET BOWLING -
For the past few years, Greenwich bowlers have enjoyed friendly  bowling with the members of the Coveleigh Beach Club in Rye, NY. The name, Sunset Bowling, describes the Thursday evenings at 5:30 pm in July and August when we bowl at each other's green alternately every two weeks.
