Don't throw your old unwanted glasses away, donate them!
Give the gift of sight to someone!  You can help someone else see clearly by donating your old glasses.  Many local optometrists will clean, repair, classify your glasses by prescription.  Then, with help of several large organisations, your glasses will be delivered to the people who need them throughout North American and developing countries. Also, by doing so, you're not only help other people in need, you're helping the environment by throwing less.
You can help shed some light on this growing problem
Here is a list of companies where you can send
your old and unwanted glasses to
PEARLE VISION

Other Things You Can Donate! Instead of Throwing Away
Your Cell Phone If you change your cell phone, instead of throwing it away, find out if your cell phone provider takes them back. They can probably fix them, and give them to needy families so they can have a phone for emergencies.  You can also donate your cell phone to the Ottawa Food Bank
Your Inkjet Cartridges You can donate your inkjet cartridges to Grand & Toy, they will donate 2$ to United Way for every eligible inkjet cartridge brought in for recycling. Also, you can donate your inkjet catridges to the Ottawa Food Bank.
Magasines, toys,
clothings, etc.
There are a lot of things (such as your old unwanted toys, clothing, etc.) you can donate to your local good will centres (United Way / Centraide, St-Vincent-de-Paul, etc.) instead of throwing them away. Also, why throw your magasines away? Give them to nursing or retirement homes or doctor's or eye care offices.
If you know of any other organisations where people can donate to, please let me know.
