Lion’s Roar
Principal’s Message
Today concludes the first week of the 2004-2005 school year. What a positive, smooth opening-of-school we’ve had! All of the hard work and planning that takes place during the summer pays off that first week when our students come back to school and we see their enthusiastic faces on the first day of school. Many, many thanks to Julie Maple, our Coordinator of Student Services, Rhonda Hedgecock, Director of Business and Operations, Cathy Young, Office Coordinator, and Doug Larsen, Bob Lupica and Debi Cowan, our Maintenance staff, for making it all come together by the first day of school. We welcome all of our teachers, classified staff, students and parents back for what we know will be an outstanding year of teaching and learning.
A special thank-you also to the PTA Board! They are already hard at work planning fund-raising activities that helps to provide the quality education that we offer all of the students in our school. They are an amazing group of women who accomplish so much in record time!! Please make every effort to join the PTA and support their work.
Please remember that the school driveway that runs through the center of school is a one-way street at all times. Our students are so much safer this way – please respect the rule when you drive onto the campus.
Back-to School Night is tonight at 6:00 PM – Please come!! All of our teaching staff, the School Board and the PTA Board will be introduced. Refreshments will be served at the end of the evening in the cafeteria. Jeannette Lundberg, a parent, has made a very special “Little Red Schoolhouse” cake to celebrate our 50th anniversary at this school site. Thanks Jeanette! Book Fair will give you a raffle ticket with each purchase. Win one of five Book Fair certificates for $25.00 each.
There will not be a bake sale tonight. We will ask for baked goods for our Fall Festival. PTA thanks you for your continued support.
There are 3 parent vacancies for Site Council this year. If you would like to place your name on the ballot, please contact Cathy at 724-1231 by September 21st.
Debbie Campanella will resume her Art Class on Wednesday, Sept. 15th at the Lake Hughes Community Center. If interested, call Debbie at 724-1491 for more information.
Donations for our Rummage Sale can be dropped off beginning Wednesday, the 15th near the garage between 8:00-8:30 a.m. and 2:30-3:00 p.m.
PTA will be selling last year’s tee shirts below cost, while supplies last. All shirts will cost $8.00 and all sweatshirts will cost $10.00.
In honor of our 50th celebration this year, we will have our “Friday Fifties Fact” in every Lion’s Roar. We’ll all learn trivia facts about the decade our school started at this site. This week’s 50’s fact: Dwight Eisenhower is elected 33rd President of the United States in 1952.
