Miranda

from a painting by

John William Waterhouse

This gown I made for a customer in Scotland, who wanted a versatile outfit to wear to events. Her budget was limited, however, so instead of the regular burgundy undergown I made Destiny (also based on a Waterhouse painting) to wear beneath it.

It is a fairly straightforward mid-Mediaeval-era gown, floor-length, princess-seamed to showcase the figure, with "angel" sleeves and a deep v-neck to allow the undergown to peek through.

The gown in the painting is most probably made of silk dupioni, but this was beyond my customer's budget so we opted for silk essence instead. It is machine-washable, with a lovely texture and sheen. It drapes beautifully.

Here is the front of the gown, with and without Destiny beneath.

And here are some other views of the gown. The spot on the last picture is from the camera, and is not present on the actual garment. The colour in the first picture bears the closest resemblance to the actual colour of the fabric. As you can see, the sheen and hue of the fabric is quite lovely.
