Thank you, Russell

For having principles and sticking to them, even when no one else understands that that is what you are doing.

For not letting down a friend in need. The truth will come to light eventually, I just hope someone is around to hear it.

For not responding to b*llsh*t. That is what the tabloids are full of and you do not lower yourself to their level.

For understanding the difference between being an actor and becoming a star. You worked long and hard to become one and became the other by default. You know which one is important.

For defending yourself only when your work is called into question. Anything else is none of our business.

For your unprotected heart. You allow us to see your faults and let us to realize that you are as human as we are. That's why we respond to you. You offer us honest characters with all their shades of gray and ask us to think instead of judge.

For making us as honest as you are. The bandwagoners who jumped on quickly will jump off just as fast. The willing-to-be-led-around-by-the-nose by any printed word or rumour will go whichever way the wind blows. The ones you play to are the ones who will understand what you are offering.

For your willingness to wait, 36 years so far, for the real thing, in spite of the gay and womanizing rumours. Doesn't one preclude the other? When you find the right one, it will be for real, for the right reasons, and forever.

For allowing us all to be ourselves, which is all you ask us to let you be. People are not really talking about you here, and you realize that. They are talking about themselves. Their responses to you are based on their own experiences, their own perspectives, and their own depths, because they do not know you, they only see what you bring out in them.

Thank you, Russell, for not complaining when you are sometimes so far ahead of the pack that we catch up to you much later, if at all.

It must be lonely out there.

...and thank you to Franky J for putting into words for Russell what so many of us feel.
