2001 Gossip
FROM CYNTHIA SMYTH-WARTZOK: Thought you might like to
know that I got an e-mail from Gustav Frank and his group is coming to Michigan
in September. They will perform near Grand Rapids and then spend a few days in
Chicago. The show they are performing is the one that got cancelled in Germany
last summer due to an injury. It is "Moonlight Fever" which is an
interpretation of "Midsummer Night's Dream." Ron and I will probably
go up to see it. Would anyone like to get a group together? I'll let you know
as soon as there are more details.
We had a great set of
auditions last night for "Noises Off." I will be announcing the cast
list very soon. From what I saw at auditions, I think this will be a show you
won't want to miss! Sure wish I could cast all of you!
Randy has updated the
website and included photos from "Apple Tree." If you haven't checked
it out yet, it can be found at www.pulseoperahouse.org.
David Dean mentioned last
night that there is a movie that is being filmed in Huntington but I forgot the
date. David, can you refresh my memory? Anyway, they are looking for extras for
a High School prom scene. If you want to brush off your tux or get your prom
dress out of storage, you can be in a movie. No pay, but good experience. If
you don't have a prom dress, we've got plenty at the Pulse! (We also have a few
tuxes.)
Along those lines, a few
of you have given me head shots and resumes to pass on to my friend at TV21 for
commercials. She is always looking for talent, so if anyone else is interested
in doing commercials, please send me your info.
Finally, Dannah Dean,
Curtis Shaw and Melissa Junkin have brushed off their tap shoes and are in
"Anything Goes" at Arena Dinner Theatre in Fort Wayne. Dannah is
playing Reno and Curtis is playing Billy. The dates are June 8-9, 15-16, 22-23,
and July 1. Melissa Myers is appearing as Patsy Cline in "Always, Patsy
Cline" at First Presbyterian Theatre in Fort Wayne. The dates are May
31-June 3, 8-10, 15-17. Anyone interested in getting a group together to go to
either show?
The painting session on
Saturday has been postponed due to conflicts. We'll let you know when we
reschedule.
So, what's new with all
of you?
Cynthia

Since you may or may not
watch the show, I thought I'd let you know that IPFW's production of
"Corpus Christie" was discussed on "The O'Reilly Factor"
last night on the Fox News channel (Comcast 44).
Indiana State Senator Tom
Wyss, one of the gentlemen who signed the famous Letter to the Editor, was one
of the guests, as was Journal-Gazette reporter Steve Penhollow. As you might
imagine, these two were on different sides of the issue.
Interesting discussion.
If you missed, and *really* want to see it, go to "www.foxnews.com". You can see the interview for a
fee.

Just thought you might
like to know that Ron's birthday is June 4 -- the first night of rehearsals for
"Noises Off!" I'll bring in a cake.
Also, guess we're not
going to have the "Tony" party I've been talking about. Ran out of
time. Maybe next year. However, I hope you all watch the Tonys on Sunday night.
Should be really good this year. Lots of good plays and with Nathan Lane and
Matthew Broderick in "The Producers"--well, what can I say? Let's
discuss the awards on the onelist afterwards.
Gotta go....here comes
Ron!
Can you stand it? We've
got still more news. Just got word that there is a new national travel book
coming out and the Pulse Opera House is listed as a spot to see! I'm supposed
to get a copy of this book in a few days, so I can tell you more about it then.
Didn't even know this one was in the works. Will wonders never cease?
You might be
an American in Germany if . . .
Your group of
five people can't figure out how to buy a train pass to save your lives.
(Dannah, Tony, Melissa, Curtis, and Courtney)
Ford cars are
as scarce and expensive as BMW and Mercedes in the States.
You take a
picture of the Taxis because every single one is a black Mercedes. (Courtney)
"Ich
sprieche KEINE Deutsch" ("I speak NO German") is the only German
phrase you know. (All 14 of us!)
"Rott
Wein, bitte" (Red wine, please) is the only other phrase you know.
(Melissa)
You use your
fingers in an upward motion and say, "no bubbles!" to get
non-carbonated water. (Dannah)
Your theatre
is the only one which remains fully clothed through its entire performance.
You can't
communicate with the Taxi driver . . . but it's not because he's Indian.
(Curtis, Dannah, Melissa, Tony, and Courtney)
Or . . . the
Indian man behind you in Customs tries to take you down for letting someone cut
in front of you. (Ron)
The payphones
are hot pink. (Tony, specifically!)
The
stewardesses say, "please" after every remark. "Thank you for
flying Sabena, please."
And the #1 way
to tell if you might be an American in Germany . . .
You are
singing, "When the Saints Go Marching In" at a big party . . . and
it's not considered to be hokey!
Hope you all
enjoyed this! Court

Hey everyone...just
thought I'd drop you a line and let you all know about my latest exciting
news...I entered a design of mine into a contest about a week and a half ago
for design students that is put on by Fashion Group International of
Chicago...well, long story short, it was judged, and I got a call saying that
it made it into the finals competition, and will be featured during their
runway fashion show at the annual conference in November, during which the
final judging will take place. I'm pretty excited, because it generally takes
several tries before someone finally gets a design into the finals competition,
and my instructor, Val, said that I'm the youngest in the program at BSU to
have ever gotten a design accepted, let alone as my first competition entry ever.
Okay...well, that's the latest from Orlando. You all take care!
~Eric
Thanks
everyone!!! The best I can do right now is a description, it's a black and
white diamond patterned cocktail dress, but what sets it aside is that the
black and white are actually 5 inch wide strips that are interlaced together at
angles and it's spaghetti straps are also all interlaced. I will have pictures
hopefully before the runway show, but if not, I will definately have them
afterward and I'll scan and post them for ya'll to see. Whelp, I must be going,
take care!!!!

Jen, can you do me a
favor and foward this to your entire theater community email list? Thanks.
There is a rumor floating
around that the role of Cervantes/Don Quixote has already been cast in our
upcoming production of Man of La Mancha. The rumor, which I overheard
at Henry's last night, states that I have offered the role to a certain actor. This
is absolutely untrue. While I welcome Ric auditioning on July 14--callbacks
July 15--I hope everyone in our community will audition for this wonderful show
(call 422-6329 to sign up for an appointment). I have not cast the show. Those
of you who know me, know that I don't cast a show until the audition. And,
whenever I do pre-cast a role, I make that information available before the
audition.
So do me a favor, and
start a new rumor in the community: All roles for Man of La Mancha will
be cast on Monday, July 16. Thanks for your help.

Artistic Director, First Presbyterian Theater
PS Next time there's a
rumor about FPT, make it more exciting...how about a sex scandal???

The Huntington
Area Home Educators (aka the homeschoolers) are in need of a drama instructor
for our newly developed drama program. Prior experience of instruction is not
required, but would be appreciated. Pay is not wonderful, but this is not on a
volunteer basis. This program is from ages 6-18, although we already have an
instructor for the 6-12 year olds. We hope to do a fall/winter session and then
a session in the spring. Classes are held during the day. Please forward this
message to anyone you think might be interested, and e-mail Drew Wiedman at:
[email protected] if you are interested or have any questions. Thank
you.

Hi Everybody,
Just got this
message from Dave O'Roark. This is a very funny play. Possibly as funny as
Noises Off! And one I would like to see done at the Pulse some day. Hint! Hint!
Anyway, this
is put on by a group of Huntington College alumni & students. If you get a
chance, try to catch it. I can't go on the 29th but would like to go on the
30th. Do we want to get a group of Pulse people together to go see this?
