Greg Stieber, who replaces Phillip Colglazier as development and education director at the Civic Theatre, is also directing ROMANCE ROMANCE. This is his Civic debut as director, but he had directed several shows in and around Ft. Wayne, including David Mamet's controversial play SEXUAL PERVERSITY IN CHICAGO, which was produced by the Alternative Theatre at the Loft last year. Stieber previously worked with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic as their ticket manager and development assistant until moving to Chicago in May 1999 in search of a position similar to the one that became available last month at the Fort Wayne Civic.

The fall show at Homestead High School, IS THERE A COMIC IN THE HOUSE?, directed by Ed Koczergo, opens on November 11 and plays through the 13, with the Thursday show at 7:30 and the Friday and Saturday shows at 8:00. If their football team makes it through the play-offs, the Friday show is moved to a Sunday matinee at 2:00. The story revolves around Shotzie Starr, who runs a boarding house for comics in New York City. According to cast member Emily Lyday, "The Act II stand-up routine is a real hoot, and the way they get discovered is a very clever twist." Lyday portrays a kidnapper named Louise (as in Hewey, Duey, and Louise). Think Uma Thurman in "Pulp Fiction." Tickets are $5 and can be bought at the door or by calling 431-2266.

The Indiana Community Theatre League, which was formed in 1957, has decided to split off from the umbrella Indiana Theatre Association. According to Robert Miller, "ICTL was independent until the 1970s when it joined ITA to centralize some services and gain some economic advantage from sharing costs with other theatre groups. Throughout its history, ICTL has conducted annual festivals to bring those interested in theatre together to share information, see what others are doing, and stimulate interest in shows. ICTL has also conducted workshops in the past and is planning more for the future, particularly in technical work."

Membership in ICTL is $10 for individuals and $25 for theatres, running to the end of February. Checks can be made to ICTL and mailed to Ross Rowland, 8209 North Costa Mesa, Muncie, IN 47302.
