So you know how the Wolverine has this bad habit of creeping up behind me, tapping me on the shoulder and demanding attention? He did it big time the first time I saw Marie in her nightgown. What the hell was Louise Mingenbach [costume mistress for X2] thinkin putting her in that? I almost had a heart attack! And thats how this wee drabble came to be written.
I love meta-narratives. They explain so much, provide a context from which to view the movies, and give me more quality time with Logan and Marie. Why did Logan need a beer so badly after his long drive from Westchester to Boston? My guess is that hes been looking at much more than he ever thought hed see of Marie while shes sacked out next to him. This song takes its place alongside the superbly gothic Blue Lamp, the wildly passionate Violet and Blue, and the solemn and contemplative Battle of the Dragon as one of Stevies many contributions to soundtracks in the 1980s. Originally featured in Fast Times at Ridgemont High, this song played during Stacy and Damones abortion crisis. Nicks voice is a combination of gently chiding and blissfully matter-of-fact and the image of her hair as a soft silver chain was a beautiful tie-in to Rogue. The ending is in a similar vein with Nightbird with its punchy little remark. But the fun thing about this story is that theres more than one interpretation for whats going on. Who is the rival? Who is calling whom a pervert? And why was Rogue smiling? The quote I selected is also deliberately ambiguous. Aint I a stinker? |
