The Wolverine returns with a few words about the first time he ever saw Marie in that dive bar in Laughlin City. For me, this is the beginning of his fascination with her. She came into his life life a little fairy of autumn, all milk chocolate eyes, auburn hair and ivory skin. Even though she walked like she knew how to handle herself, her eyes were more than a bit frightened and wild. He could sense that interesting blend of confidence and innocence in her, like a fawn who is not timid.
I always liked that first scene between Rogue and Wolverine. There was something very touching about how she looked at him, how he looked at her. Her willingness to warn him just sealed the chemistry between Paquin and Jackman in that scene. That split-second moment when Wolverine is poised, arms raised and claws extended, he looks her dead in the eye and he knows hes a goner. Now shes not just some girl who wandered into the wrong place at the wrong time; shes some he is indebted to, whether he likes it or not. And theres little chance of him forgetting her, even though hes probably going to outlive every person she will ever meet in her lifetime. The first two lines of the song are the ones I chose to concentrate on:
You could be my silver springs, blue-green colors flashin It is very beautiful and lyrical imagery courtesy of songwriter par excellence, Stevie Nicks, and fitting for Logan and Marie. The adamantium claws are blue, Logans eyes are green, Maries eyes are autumn and she herself is the ocean. Interpret as you will. This song, taken off the Rumours album in favor of the peppy I Dont Want to Know, was one of Nicks favorites from that era. She got the idea for it while passing a sign for Silver Springs, Maryland. Nicks left Fleetwood Mac for various reasons around 1990, mostly because Mick Fleetwood wouldnt allow her to release Silver Springs on her compilation of her solo greatest hits Timespace. When Fleetwood Mac reunited in 1997, Silver Springs became the first single off of their live album, The Dance. I must also say that its an interesting experience to write a drabble with your beta reader looking over your shoulder, threatening to "go bitchcakes" on you if you cut her favorite line. |
