I had to write this backwards, because Logans little jab at Bobby was the first thing that came out of the keyboard. It forced me to imagine what would cause him to say that and then I thought back to Logans reaction to Maries appearance when he returned to the mansion in the movie.
And what do you know, there was Logan tapping me on the shoulder and bringing to my attention the fact that little Marie who wore baggy jeans and sweaters and mittens was no longer little. She was a woman now, a woman who wore tight black clothes, opera-length gloves, and dramatic makeup, and dated good guys like Bobby. Shades of Jean-Obsession-Transferrence, anyone? It's about death, it's a spirit calling, says Nicks. She wrote it with her best friend Robin Anderson in mind. Robin was the one person who knew Stevie before she became the Gypsy or even Rhiannon. I look at the song as access for Logan to see through Rogue and remind Marie that he knows what shes really like. Its more than a little bittersweet for her because she thinks that all he sees is the child, and doesnt realize that Logans having serious issues dealing with her growing up. The setting is after the scene in the Oval Office. The drabble is actually the distillation of a the opening scene of a long piece of fiction that I have planned for the summer. Logan and Marie had to get past the personal issues to be able to be Wolverine and Rogue, teammates and X-Men. This was a way for them to break the ice and it also gives Logan a chance to accept on Rogue and Icemans relationship while still claiming Marie for himself. |
