I wanted to capture the feeling of being able to manipulate fire. Allerdyce has always been a fascinating character and theres something beautiful and unearthly about his face when its lit up by the flames. It gilds his features, flows with his movements; hes kin to Magneto in that they are both conductors of energy. There was something magical and rhythmic about Allerdyces gestures during that scene that I wanted to pay homage to in the written word.
The other driving factor was how did Rogue managed stay calm and control the firestorm that Allerdyce had created? The set-up with her kiss with Bobby beforehand and the fact that her gift latched onto his made it possible for her to use Bobbys powers to combat Allerdyces. Of course, with Logan lying on the porch in front of her, shot through the head and apparently dead, she was probably panicking big time. But she somehow she kept cool and knew exactly how much to draw from Allerdyce without killing him or even incapacitating him. Could it have been Bobby's personality meshing with her own? As for the inspiration, it's a driving rock 'n roll song sung by John Stewart (formerly of the Kingston Trio) with Stevie Nicks on the harmony vocals and Lindsey Buckingham on guitar. I found this quote about the production that seemed rather appropriate: "Its not gonna take long. [John Stewart] said, "Turn the tape on," so they turned the tape on and held the cue cards out and I put my hand over Stevies mouth when she wasnt supposed to sing and hit her in the back when she was and she did it in one take and I got her on the song. It took me awhile to get the right feel of this, but I think the flow is well done and I'm satisfied with the flavor. |
