| CHRISTENSEN WINS 2 MATCHES AT STATE TOURNAMENT........... |
Greenon's Kevin Christensen won two matches at the State wrestling tournament in Columbus, Ohio by a combined score of 16-6, but it wasn't enough as he lost his other two matches and came up one match short of placing in the State Tournament for the second year in a row.
Kevin's first match in the tournament was against Willie Saxton (40-5) of Rayland Buckeye Local. Kevin got behind 4-0 and rallied in the third period only to lose by a score of 4-3. The loss put him in the consolation bracket against Josh Hahn (22-6) of Akron Coventry. Kevin defeated him by a score of 4-3. Kevin's next match was against Colby Nuhfer (39-4) of Williard and Kevin won by major decision 12-3. That win matched him against Shane Friery (31-5) of Parma. The winner of the match would be guaranteed at least a top 6 placement in the tournament, while the loser would be eliminated. Kevin lost the match by a score of 14-5.
Kevin concludes the season with a record of 42-5 and this is the second year in a row that he has qualfied for the state tournament. It's believed that the 42 wins is the single season record for a Greenon wrestler, and as a sophomore Kevin has already qualified for the State tournament twice and will have two more seasons where he could qualify for the State tournament.
