Exerpt:
"Five more days it rained. Confined to a dreary room, severed from all that she had known and loved, Marnie suffered a desolation worse than anything else in her life. By day, unoccupied, she gazed at the rain on the lonely sea, and ached for human company. At night, the drumming of the unrelenting rain mingled in her nightmares with scrabblings at her door, unearthly cries, and the howls of the roaming dead."
