Book Reviews
This is my humble attempt at sharing with the world my opinion on the books I've read.  I'll try to add as many as possible so check back frequently!  If you have comments on any of the books you can enter them at the bottom of the page!
Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas by James Patterson
The book begins with Katie Wilkinson wondering why her love, Matt Harrison, has left her.  The only clue she has is a diary he has given her titled "Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas."  Through reading the diary Katie falls in love with Suzanne and Nicholas and finds an understanding of just why Matt has left her.  This book was one of the best I've read in a long time!  It is a definite departure from Patterson's normal writings, however it allows Patterson's beautiful writing style to really show!  This book was a quick read (even for us slow readers) and I recommend it to anyone with an afternoon free!
COMMENTS: Kim:  I love this book!

The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold
This book is the story of a young teenage girl who is brutally raped and murdered.  Told from her point of view while she watches the world from her heaven, Suzie Salmon tells of how her death pulls people apart and brings people together.  She also tells of her struggle with finding true love too late.  This is a touching story inspired by Sebold's own touch with death (which you can read about in Lucky -- her autobiography).  I found this book very hard to put down.  Sebold does an excellent job of putting you in a very different world. If you do decide to pick up this book, make sure you have a box of kleenex nearby!
COMMENTS: Alison:  This book made me laugh, cry and think.  It was very touching.
Angela:  This book will be coming out in paperback April 20, 2004!!!

The Giver by Lois Lowery
Imagine a world without poverty, descrimination, unemployment, and pain.  This is the world in which 12-year-old Jonas finds himself chosen for the most prestigious job of all -- the Receiver of Memory.  Jonas must meet with "the Giver" to receive the memories of the past -- a past when there was color, love, freedom of choice, and memories of the world before.  Jonas must decide what he will do with this new knowledge.  In one of the best books of all time, Lois Lowery does a wonderful job describing what just may happen in an extreme socialistic utopian society.  This book is great as "fluff" or as something to make you think!
COMMENTS: Alison:  This book was good.  I should read it again -- I read it in 8th grade.
You can get The Giver by Lois Lowery through www.bn.com.  The cost is $6.50
The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown
Although very predictable, this book was very well written and captivating.  The book starts out with a very prominent curator at the Louvre getting murdered.  Out of bizaar clues left by the deceased, Robert Langdon, an American art historian, is accused of the murder.  This is an exciting story about the search for the Holy Grail.  I definitely recommend this book!  If you don't read it for the story, read it to see what all the hype is about!!!  Just a word of warning -- if you read this book you need to remember it is FICTION not fact and most art historians, religion historians, and just plain basic historians have come out saying most of what Brown says are just HIS assumptions!  Enjoy this book!  He has wonderful imagery if nothing else!
You can get The Da Vinci Code byDan Brown through www.bn.com.  The cost is $14.97
COMMENTS: Angela:  This book will be out in paperback in April 2005 (I think)!
