My Little Red Man!

I introduced you to my newest family member in the Christmas 07 thread. He’s growing brilliantly, despite still insisting on being syringe fed formula twice a day. He is very much part of the family and is convinced that he’s everybody’s equal. Not least is this feeling with Heath! Heath is very patient and loving toward him and tolerates most things with a grace I’ve seldom seen before, where one of the pair has extremely spikey claws and no reluctance to use them!

This sight brought me close to tears, seeing the tiny kitten nestling between my biggest boys legs. They’d been playing, just little games as it’s so hot, but they needed a rest. I’d tried getting Nikau to settle on the bed with me, since there’s a breeze blowing in there that is cooling things somewhat, but no, he wanted to remain with Heath.

I was as quiet as I could be, to find my camera and get the shots I got. I knew that if I did anything that sounded remotely interesting, Heath would be up and beside me, fearful of missing out. However, this time I was successful! And these are the results!

As he settled he made himself more and more comfortable, snuggling in and purring like a little chainsaw! Heath must’ve liked the feeling as he didn’t flinch and was content to remain there with his rumbling companion for quite some time!

Slowly he turned onto his back, showing complete trust by exposing his tummy. I’m sure you can see how well fed he is. He is currently getting through one and a half kitten sachets of wet food plus a small dish of dry food and his twenty or thirty mils of formula. He also benefits from a small portion of the big kids freshly cooked fish, if the mood strikes him, two or three times a week.

These photos have got to be among the CUTEST I ever took and will end up in frames on my walls! I feel so blessed with such darling animals in my life and I know they appreciate my opposable thumbs and all they do for them! I just wish Heath would appreciate the grooming I try to give him. It doesn’t matter what I do, he always manages to end up looking like a woeful, dishevelled beast! But I love him all the same!

Can you hear the question he’s asking me? “Where’s the kitten? Kitten? What kitten? Ohhhhh – THIS kitten! He’s MINE!”
