Pets, past and present.

Teak.

How could we resist. He was alone in the room, looking for love, so climbed onto our shoulders, purring like a trooper. He fell asleep in our arms. He needed a home so bringing him home was an obvious move. His favourite place is nestled in the crook of a neck, where he will wash himself and fall asleep for hours on end. I learnt very quickly not to walk around the kitchen with him on my shoulder, without taking notice of where he was looking, as the second morning, he leapt from my shoulder and hung from the budgie cage, about 7ft above the floor! Quite the little adventurer! Thankfully I was able to unhook his grappling irons and move him away before he fell or caused the birds too much alarm!

He settled in very quickly and is totally relaxed with his family. The other cats have accepted the interloper well and within a week, two were interacting with him in a very special way! Within two weeks he was out eating with the big kids, in the laundry room, even taking the risk of trying to share their bowls and taste their food! Not to be encouraged as his tummy would be easily upset, but very cute all the same!

Willow and Cherrie played with him and tried to mother him, much to his disgust! All he wanted to do was play! The thud of little feet as he hurtled from room to room, closely followed by Cherrie was quite astounding, given that he was only 1/6th of her size! When he came home he was just about 7 weeks old. These pictures were taken within an hour of arrival.

Kauri and Matai have been a little more wary, but havent allowed his arrival to upset their routines unduly. He gives them space but when the opportunity presents itself, the desire to play with them is too hard to resist, and slowly he is breaking through their reserve! Heath is adoring his little brother and they try to play, but with Teak being so fast, Heath is very wary and reluctant to get close to the needle-like claws!

Teak is a welcome addition to the household and with his lovely nature, will be a joy to observe as he grows and discovers the world in which he lives! At least now I know, with Kauri getting older, that I have a nice little male cat to take over the role of master of the house, when the time comes for Kauri to relinquish it! I just hope Teak will learn some good habits from his big brother before then!
