Reflections.

Driving along on a fine winter day near Henley, south of Dunedin, the water was absolutely still. The images in this natural looking-glass were so vivid that photos had to be taken.

No matter which direction you looked, the hills and trees were reflected perfectly in the river as it moved slowly along its course.

The wind was not even whispering and the sound of birdsong was for once, almost drowned by the hum of passing traffic.

Standing on a bridge, the view in both directions was totally amazing. The sky and the river seemed to meet, despite being two different shades of blue!

Reluctantly, the road carried us back toward Dunedin. Heath had been for a swim and was happy, so there seemed no need for haste. Crossing the hills and moving onto the scenic southern route, as we came into the tiny seaside village of Brighton, the lagoon close to the beach caught my eye.

Wading birds patrolled the edge, scooping microscopic organisms from the water as they moved, the clear conditions making their quest much easier.

The late flowering plants made the whole scene that much more magical.
