GREENACRES DRAGONS VS STURT DOUBLE BLUES
Sunday, 4th June 2006

The Dragons fell just short of toppling an under-manned Sturt team at Prospect Oval on Sunday, the Double Blue getting up by 4 goals.

A week after the Magpies stunning win over the Double Blues, the Dragons employed a similar never-say-die attitude, however fitness this time in the last quarter deprived them yet again of a well earned win.

The Dragons lost key defender Lea Fry and midfielder Chloe Whiley before the bounce with injury. Youngsters Heidi, Kaylee and Candice were also impressive in their 2nd games for the black and green with two goals to Kaylee and key possessions to the other girls. Kirin Machwi and Charmain Williams were serviceable as always in defence, their voice and one percenters ever invaluable to the Dragons.

The game started with Dragons lively and confidently moving the ball up forward. It was an even contribution from both teams competing fiercely for possession. As a result the game was tight for the most of the first half, Sturt just running a little more in the later stages to take the lead going into the half time break.

Goal sneak Lia Sioukas fired up the Dragons hopes with a goal shortly into the 3rd term adding some team belief and increasing players determination at the ball. The challenges kept coming from the Double Blues but with another Dragon goal, a win was in reach at the change of the third quarter.

However- the again the Dragons couldnt finish off 4 quarters of football and led by their captain, the busy Beeper ignited the Double Blues and was awesome in setting up a few goals, along with her own impressive running goal. Sturt lifted considerably in the final term to kick three goals, denying the Dragons the opportunity to belt the teams club song aloud.
