About his Writing
His work titled "On Women" is the longest fragment of a poem that has survived from his time period.  It does not refer to women in a very favorable manner.  The poem is about women in their role as wives, and Semonides calls them a curse and describes them as different types of animals.

Semonides led a group of peole to the island of Amorgos to begin a colony there.
