My Interview with Danny Miranda

We all know a lot about the original members of Blue Oyster Cult, but how much do we know about the new guys? Spinal Tap's drummers kept dying and Blue Oyster Cult's drummers and bassists keep leaving to play with other bands (but what could possibly be better that playing for BOC?) But Bassist Danny Miranda has been with BOC for a while, yet little is known about him. So when he finally signed on AOL, I quickly started to harass him for an interview.

3/18/97

Brian: What made you first decide to learn to play bass?

Danny: I started playing bass by default. No other guitar players wanted to play the bass, so I was it.

Brian: What artists have influenced your playing style?

Danny: Influences range from the Police, to Rush, to Jaco Pastorious.

Brian: What bass playing experience did you have before joining Blue Oyster Cult? (i.e. previous bands)

Danny: I've recorded some albums with Tony Harnell from TNT, and Al Pitrelli from Savatage, I also ghosted on TNT's "Realized Fantasies"

Brian: How did you come about joining BOC?

Danny: I got the BOC gig through [previous BOC bassist] Greg Smith.

Brian: What other artists do you listen too?

Danny: Miles Davis, Mary Chapin Carpenter, George Jones, The Rolling Stones, The Black Crowes, King's X, etc.

I did ask Danny some more questions, but unfortunatly he did not answer them. Hopefully I'll be able to get him to answer them when he get's a break from his tour.
