| STALK FORREST GROUP The history..... |
The Stalk Forrest Group story began several years earlier when Buck Dharma and Albert Bouchard found (1965) the band "The Disciples" and since then they changed many names and members (like :The Travesty,The caws,...) until they found the SOFT WHITE UNDERBELLY in 1967. Buck was on guitar,Albert on drums,Allen Lanier on bass and keyb,Jeff Richards on saxophone. But they didn't have a singer.Sandy Pearlman and Ritzard Meltzer who found and support the band as lyric-writers,and managers tried to sing also did Jeff Richards) but finally didn't make it well. (A new member was Andy Winters on bass when Allen went to the army). So,they found Les Braunstein who had a Morrison-style image and voice and started rehearsaling on the band's house-studio.Finally they had an offer from Electra to record an LP.They had almost finished the recordings (1968) when a sudden behaviour problem occured on Les side and the band decided to find another singer. But Electra didn't like the whole thing and rejected the idea of making an LP with them, though they had plans to promote them as "The Doors of the NY side". So...Eric Bloom took over the vocals (Patty Smith was one of the suggested vocalists before him) and Albert's brother -Joe Bouchard- the bass ,when Andy decided he wanted to do something else in his life and Allen came back from the army and the story goes on......in 1969-70 the band decided to change their name to "OAXACA".They made a demo for Electra which was also rejected and then they found another name..."Stalk Forrest Group". As always Sandy Pearlman was the founder of this name too. They started recording at Electra's studios for the "St.Cecilia" lp.They were ready to release it,they gave 200 single copies (Arthur comics/What is quicksand?),to radio stations...but something strange happened, and Electra's bosses changed mind again. So,they found David Lucas (CBS).They were invited to play in CBS building!!! live.So they did and they liked them...they found a name quickly (Blue Oyster Cult),they made a demo and the rest is known to everybody i guess........................
