| THE WORLD (For Intus A Amphorae, which yes, I know, is very bad latin.) The Intus world is a fantasy world, plain and simple. It is similar to Earth, but it is NOT earth. Or at least it's not our Earth. (That's basically because I wanted the planet to have two moons.) Basically, it's like earth, but with an extra moon, different continents, and some species of animals that don't exist on Earth. Like Earth, but with extras! The time period that the story takes place in is sort of similar to the middle ages (In Europe), in the sense that there are a lot of scattered cities/regions, and they're all pretty much on their own. There's no "central government" or "empire" to speak of. And there really hasn't been for a long time. The humans are pretty disorganized, the elves and fae, respectively, though their realms are better organized, are still fractured, again with no real central government. (though each area usually has its own government) The idea of discrimination based on sexual orientation pretty much doesn't exist in this world, since it's equally acceptable to have men or women as lovers. And though some people do prefer just one gender, most people are bisexual. Though (almost) no one is going to harass someone if they only like men, or only like women. Likewise, the idea of discriminating against someone based of skin colour is not an idea that would cross most people's minds in this world. There is, however, some discrimination between species. I'd get into the specifics, but there's really no point. Basically, each species generally keeps to themselves. (And while it's not unheardof for an elf or a fae to go strolling through a human town, it is weird.) One thing that tends to freak most people out are halfbreeds. (Not everyone is this way.) but there's something that people find just weird about species-crossed children, and often these half-breeds can be in... a great deal of danger. (Getting stoned, left to die as a baby, driven out of town, whatever. It depends where one goes. some areas don't care at all, and a lot of the faerie courts are open about taking is *faerie* half-breeds.) The odd thing is, that despite the fact that halfbreed children are seen as such a.. taboo... I guess, sex between species, though not exactly encouraged is not especially uncommon. Women aren't opressed, but there are still gender roles that are similar to the gender roles of our own societies. Though it's not really "Weird" if someone steps outside said gender roles. Magic. Um... The fae are very naturally magical, elves have inborn magic that they tend to train to an extent, different magical trainings depending on what it is one does. (As a job, or whatever.) Genies are MADE of magic. a good portion of humans (25-40%) are born with or develop some type of magic. For most humans, though, it's left untrained, and just seen as a normal kinda thing, the way that some people have an ear for music, and some don't. Some places, such as temples of the gods encourage intense training of whatever magic a human is born with. But mostly, for most humans, magic is pretty casual. Speaking of gods, there's really only one set of them. So there's not much in the way of religious conflict. (Though there is lots of conflict in the world.) Human society isn't fully literate, but I'd say... between 40-60% of it is, depending on where you go. MOST elves are literate, and to my knowledge, ALL fae and ALL genies are fully literate. In a bunch of languages. Wasn't that fun and long-winded? Most of it's not super important anyways. ^^; Back |
