RAIDERS
Round 1 v Snappers
As the team descended on Queens Park their was an air of excitement, anticipation and nervousness.
Not about the game, but how we would look in the lime green T shirts and black silkies.
By gee everyone looked smooth! We all were relieved.

The boys ran out with chests out trying to hide the guts that had developed over winter and the opposition had fear written all over their faces. Clyde, Todd  Smell ma finger, Brick with eyes, Sticky Ricky, the Snappers had reason to be worried.

After the openning few exchanges of hard slap touches and sprints back in defence. The team soon was scattered with red faces and desperate jogs to the sideline for changeovers. Gary Belcher was out on his feet within minutes. Gary Coyne and Boxhead Walters were more interested in chit chat
with the support club (Harrison snr & co) than even watching the game let alone getting on the paddock.

Fit as a fiddle the 89 Raiders were soon averaging about 23 seconds of match time per changeover.

As the other tired Chris O Sullivan stepped up to the plate with some penetrating runs, sleek steps and slights of hand to create many of the first half opportunities. He was keenly backed up by Clyde, Mal Meninga and Dean Lance.

Steve Jackson back from injury was also providing problems for the Snapper defence.

Unfortunately due to bad light and my lack of contact lenses I was unable to see the remaining 30 minutes of the game. But I believe we won in style.

Honourable mention goes to Gary Coyne for finishing his first VB before the final whistle had blown.

This is the start of something big!!
