GMLA Meeting
8/18/08
Meeting called to order by President
B.J. Frosch at 9:03 am., with 8 members attending.
Attendance: B.J. Frosch, Annette Veelenturf, John Plummer, Meredith
Randlett, Gail Allen, John Plummer, Randy Lary, Mike Gallagher, and Bob Steed. Steve Seekeins was present before
meeting began but was unable to stay.
Absent: Don Childs, Dennis Whitcomb, Joanne Noyes and Greg Tasker.
Guests: Jan Woerheide agreed
to take notes.
Secretary’s Report: Accepted as read
Treasurer’s Report : On file.
Committee Reports:
Erosion
Control: No action on the
Association to improve their road.
4-wheelers have created some problems destroying the berms that are
designed to direct the water run-off.
BJ asked if erosion control might include
some assistance with the expenses to the NorthEast Rd. Assn.
for the work that was done following the road
wash-out on the Harmony section of the road in
April. Pictures of the wash-out were
distributed to the board. Perhaps some of the accrued funds in the
treasury of the GMLA could be used to help fund private erosion problems through matching
grants.
Some
projects that may not be strictly erosion control, such as ditching and repairs
of wash-outs on the
roads
around the lake do impact on the erosion into the lake. There was support of assisting road
associations and private owners. Much
discussion followed as to the amount of money to be spent.
Mike Gallagher made a motion to use 15% of
the checkbook balance on August 1 of each year to fund
erosion projects. Motion was seconded
by------------------------------ and passed unanimously.
Erosion Control signs were completed and
shown to the board. Secretary will send a Thank You note to
Stephanie Slack and Tina Ralicki. John will
give the signs to Steve Seekins for placement.
Merchandise:
Gail reported $606.36 taken in at the annual
picnic. $557.87 was received from Rocky’s from 12/30/07 to
7/6/08 and approximately another $500. We
receive about $1500.00/yearly in profit from merchandise
sales.
Courtesy Boat Greeters:
BJ reported this program is
doing well with 9 trained at the recent work-shop. 6 others have been trained
on the job and 5 were formerly trained. We have had a presence at the boat
launch one day of each weekend and have been well received. We will continue to
monitor and educate some part of each weekend throughout the summer. We want to
especially be present for Oct. 11 and 12 during the Bass Tournament. Linda
Blicker and Mary Ellen Bossom are contacting greeters. Meredith Randlett is
calling to remind those who have signed up.
Newsletter:
According to our by-laws the
newsletter is supposed to go out 4x a year. It seems that 3x may be enough. A
by-law change will need to be accomplished if we want to do this. BJ will check
the by-laws. A newsletter is planned for Sept. Please get your info to Annette.
Annette asked why the
newsletter was not placed on the web site. She sent it to John Lanoue. BJ will
check with John.
Membership:
Approximately 120. Up from 108 of last year as reported at annual meeting.
Joanne Noyes is working on an updated contact list of people around the lake to
help determine how many newsletter to print.
Land Trust: Jan
will inquire about the next meeting give the date to BJ.
Old Business:
Boat Parade: No one has
offered to plan.
Signage
at the Boat launch: The state has been contacted with out request and the specifications
of the
signage. We have not received permission as
yet.
Invasive
Plants: Work-shop was well attended,
interesting but lengthy. BJ questioned whether or not it
would make more sense to test other private
launch sites around the lake rather than the same area each
year. Roberta Hill suggested that that might
make more sense. Will discuss with Scott Williams for next
year.
Buoys: Mark will need help taking the
buoys out over Columbus Day Weekend. There is a Bass
Tournament that weekend so perhaps Monday
will be the best day. Weather will determine the day.
Water
Level in
will report to Peggy Morgan re: water levels.
New
Business:
GMLA Fact Sheet: BJ distributed a proposed fact sheet to be handed out during courtesy
boat inspections. Board approved the fact sheet.
John Plummer mentioned that
he has a scrubber for cleaning buoys before they are taken out of the water.
Floating Loon Nests. As there were no surviving chicks this year. BJ suggested that we
request
Next Meeting: Sept. 20, 9am at Town Offices.
Meeting adjourned at 10:05 am.
Jan Woerheide and BJ Frosch,
