O lhao is a former Arab town with white cube shaped houses which nestle in the narrow cobbled streets.  A brand new marina opposite the picturesque fish market which is the best in Portugal, second only to Porto.  The variety, low prices, are unbelievable.  Next door is the huge fruit and vegetable market (local cheese, sausages & ham).  On the road opposite the market, restaurants, caf�s galore.  Olhao has 3 modern supermarkets discreetly tucked away on the main highway, offering all foreign delicacies.  Also foreign newspapers and mags, banks, automatic tellers, a cinema.

Car boot sales once a month where you can sometimes unearth treasures, as dealers come from as far away as Morocco and the North of Portugal.
