George Lucas had an Idea for an epic space fantasy for years, in 1977 It exploded into Theaters.
In 1977, scifi films were down, in fact, only 4 were made that year, but the following year, Star Wars had inspired 25 scifi films, reviving the genre. This one is considered by many to be the best sci-fi film ever, part of the Star Wars series, one of the biggest movie sagas of all time.
The Rebel alliance has won their first victory against the empire in the galactic civil war, now Princess Leia speeds to Tatooine, trying to evade the empire. Leia's Mission is to confront Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi and get him to join the rebels against the empire, and then to deliver him and the plans for "The Death Star" to her father on tatooine. The Death Star is the Empire's new weapon of mass destruction, with the ability to destroying a planet.
Leia's Mission fails, she is taken prisoner to the Death Star by the frightening Darth Vader. Now It is up to 2 droids, a farmboy, a jedi, a gambler/smuggler and a wookie to save Leia, get the plans to the rebellion and save the day.
In 1997, on the 20th anniversary of the film, It was re-released as a "Special Edition" with more scenes and effects, as were the 2 following films "Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi".
An Awesome film, great Special Effects, great plot, great action scenes and some of the best lines out of all movies ("You're a little short for a Stormtrooper"). I recommend this film to anyone and everyone.
