Pauline is a mother of three daughters. She trained as a childbirth educator with the National Childbirth Trust in London during the early 1980's.

On returning to New Zealand, Pauline co-founded the New Zealand Active Birth Movement and initially worked as a independent childbirth educator with support from the New Zealand Home Birth Association.

With gradual acceptance of her approach, she moved into more mainstream work and was employed by Hospital Boards as well as such organisations as Parent's Centre New Zealand.

After organising a nation-wide tour by a well known childbirth educator and writer Janet Balaskas in 1985, followed by childbirth pioneer and obstetrician Dr. Michel Odent in 1987, Pauline became more involved with political issues surrounding childbirth and midwifery autonomy.

In 1995 Pauline met midwife Jean Sutton and together they wrote and published a text booklet for midwives and childbirth health professionals. This book
Understanding and Teaching Optimal Foetal Positioning has become a "bible" for those working in the field of childbirth.

Following the publication of her latest book,
Sit Up and Take Notice! Positioning Yourself for a Better Birth, Pauline has a new video, Sophie's Birth. It features the beautiful home birth of Sophie, Pauline's third daughter.

Pauline has recently returned from the ICAN. conference in St. Petersburg, Florida, U.S.A., where she was invited to be a keynote speaker.
