Queen Nefertiti

Queen Nefertiti

She was the beloved wife of king Akhenaton Famed throughout the ancient world for her outstanding beauty, Queen Nefertiti remains the one of the most well known of the queens of ancient Egypt.Little is known about the origins of Nefertiti but it seems unlikely that she was of royal blood. Her name, meaning"the beautiful (or perfect) woman has come," The famous statue of Nefertiti, found in a sculptors workshop in Akhetaten, is one of the most immediately recognisable icons from this period of history. It has escaped the excesses of the Amarna artistic style, and survived the wholesale destruction of Akhenaten's monuments after his death

Queen Nefertiti is perhaps better known than her husband The king Akhenaten (Amenhotep IV) perhaps she is one of the best known queens of Ancient Egypt She is considered one of the most beautiful women of the ancient world Nefertiti may or may not have been of royal blood. She was probably a daughter of the army officer, and later pharaoh, Ay, who may in turn have been a brother of Queen Tiye. Ay sometimes referred to himself as "the God's father"

Nefertiti, the Great Royal Wife of King Amenhotep IV better known as Akhenaten, joined her husband in worship of a new religion that celebrated the power of the sun-disk Aten. Queen Nefertiti was said to have supported her husband Akhenaton as he made a unique impression on Egypts history, when the King began to promote the worship of one god above all others - the 'sun-god' Re or Ra.

Nefertiti may or may not have been of royal blood. She was probably a daughter of the army officer, and later pharaoh Ay, who may in turn have been a brother of Queen Tiye. Ay sometimes referred to himself as "the God's father", suggesting that he may have been Akhenaten's father-in-law, though there is no specific references for this claim. However, Nefertiti,s sister, Mutnojme, is featured prominently in the decorations of Ay's tomb in the Valley of the Kings on the West Bank at Thebes (modern Luxor).
