Musings on music...
All India Radio - 1st November, 2006
Being Kannada Rajyotsava (the day Karnataka was formed, 50 years ago), the Music department incharge at AIR had asked me to sing a composition of a Mysore composer. It was a half-hour recording in which i sang two pieces.

The first was the main item - Gangadhara Tripurahara - a composition of Mysore Sadasiva Rao in Purvikalyani Raga and rupaka tala. The concluding item was a Purandaradasa keerthana tuned by my guru Sri TM Krishna. He had tuned it for me nearly 2 years ago but somehow I was just unable to present it at a concert so far...luckily it clicked this time. The keerthana is "Mandamathiyu Naanu" and he has set to tune it in Valaji raga and Khanda Chapu tala.

To me, an AIR recording is always more stressful than a 3 hour concert; because in AIR you just need to focus and sing without any sort of feedback whatsoever. A tremendous learning experience for a student...
