The Health Committee of the Gratiot Collaborative Council shall assimilate information regarding health needs of all county residents, prioritize areas of concentration, and develop and support programs designed to educate and prevent those health concerns.
I. Assimilation of information from:

Hospitals serving Gratiot County residents
Public and Private schools and colleges
Nonprofit corporations such as Human Aid, 4 C, Commission on Aging, etc.
Gratiot County Employers/Human Resource departments
Gratiot County Strategic Plan with special interest in the Quality of
Life Committee
Michigan Department of Community Healtht Any other
II. Select health concerns for development:
Substance Abuse
- Obtain grant funding to train trainers for a nationally
recognized program of smoking cessation (e.g. NOT)
- Assist with promotion of program
- Obtain media awareness of community issues regarding
substance abuse
Teen pregnancy and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI)
- Educate teens regarding pregnancy and STI
- Promote �Sex Can Wait� campaigns in County schools
- Obtain media awareness of community issues regarding teen
pregnancy and STI
Ischemic Heart Disease
- Obtain grant funding to address residents� needs
- Develop a low cost alternative for cholesterol screenings,
blood pressure screenings and counseling for aldult residents of
the county.
Exercise, Nutrition and Wellness
- Develop an association with Alma College Exercise & Health
Science Dept to explore a low cost options for community residents
- Support schools� attempts to educate school aged youth regarding
diet nd exercise
- Work with schools to encourage food service to post
nutrition information for all items served.
Membership:
The committee shall consist of three to five persons appointed by the Gratiot Collaborative Council as well as other interested people from the community. The term of office shall be for one year which may be extended. The committee shall appoint a chair for each one year term. The chair will report committee progress to the GCC.
