Minutes for GCPAAA Meeting

Sept. 15, 2009

 

Joy Mayo called the meeting to order at 7pm

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

Joy asked that the new members introduce themselves from class #20 new members.

The treasurer’s report was given by Greg Gwinn. Greg discussed the budget for the current year and also he advised that YTD there has been $2,545 in income and $2,035 in expenses.

 

Old Business:

·         Joy requested that a motion be made to approve the minutes from previous meeting as posted on the web. Ruth Poindexter made a motion to approve the minutes with no changes and Michelle Little seconded the motion.

·         Joy stated that she would pass out badges and take any photos of new members at the end of the meeting if they wanted badges.

·         Joy announced that November 5th is Clay Shoot and Bowling Tournament for Speedway Children’s Charities. She passed out a sign up for Bowling Tournament at Grapevine Main event and for the Clay Shoot.

·         Joy thanked Kalere and Phillip Coleman for organizing the reception for Class #20 in May.  We all appreciated their work on this event.

·         The police luncheon in May (grilled burgers) was very well received. The event had a great turnout and many compliments for the alumni.

·         Joy announced that a plaque was presented to the alumni at the summer camp for their generous donation, which helped to make the camp very successful this year. The plaque will be hung in the VIPS area with the other plaques.

 

New Business:

·         Ideas from the April Brainstorming meeting were handed out, which included the suggested purpose of the Alumni Association.  Joy asked for a motion to accept the purpose as follows:  The purpose of the GCPAAA is to support the police department through manpower, fundraising for supplemental purchases and activities, and to serve as community ambassadors through education and communication.   A motion was made by Linda Robbins to accept the motion and Sonia Urrutia seconded the motion.

·         Joy announced that the upcoming topic for the November meeting is Identity Theft and Homeland Security will be the topic in January, 2010.

·         It was announced that Ruth Poindexter would sell the alumni stickers for your car @ $2.00 each after the meeting.

·         National Night Out will be held on Oct. 13th and there are fliers on the Citizen Police Academy  available to pass out and to promote the academy at the neighborhood parties. 

·         Joy requested volunteers to help plan the Christmas Party. She requested that a committee be started to work on the planning of the party. The following members volunteered to work on the committee: Dixie Turner, Phyllis Jones, and Phillip and Kalere Coleman.

·         Grapefest – Joy announced that we were able to fill all of the shifts. The revenue will be $1184 in lieu of the $700 which was made for the last 2 years.

·         Joy stated that there has been a request for a television for the outreach center and the break room at the PD. In addition the fax machine broke at the outreach center which is used by the police officers to fax in their reports.  A motion was made to allocate $1,500 for the purchase of the needed equipment. The motion was made to accept this allocation by Gerald Shannon and seconded by Jim Burge.

·         The discussion by Kalere Coleman for MADD walk in March was tabled until the next meeting.

·         Mary Lou Barabash passed out information to sign up for Kroger and Tom Thumb rewards which donate cash to the Alumni Association.

·         Joy introduced Caption Luna who spoke on his FBI training at Quantico.

 

The business part of the meeting was adjourned @ 7:30 pm.
