Now And Again

Why a GOW Page?

The author with Kevin Kane March, 1999
Why not? When I first put up this page (1/31/97), it was a shrine to one of the bands that had a big impact on my life. I wanted other GOW fans to be able to learn more about them and find out what they were up to now. I had no idea that, almost exactly one year after the page went up, the Grapes of Wrath would be back together and touring! That's when I changed the name of the web site to "Now and Again"; because the GOW are here NOW and they're here AGAIN. (Well, that and it's one of their album titles...)

I discovered the Grapes of Wrath my first semester at San Antonio College. I taped an episode of 120 Minutes on MTV (aka "The Real World" Channel...) and played it back the next day. While I watched the tape, I made notes of the bands that I liked (at the time, alternative was, in fact, just that and I was clueless as to who was who in the genre then...). Over the next few months, I would go out and buy the tapes of the groups I liked. One of the first tapes I bought was Treehouse because I loved the way "O Lucky Man" sounded. I came to love the rest of the songs just as much.

I have had the chance to see them twice: in February, 1988 in Austin, Texas during the Treehouse tour and once in January, 1990 during the Now and Again Tour. They were among the best shows I had seen during college.

The rest of my fandom is contained within this web site, so get lost in it and enjoy yourself! Chris Hooper and Kevin Kane have been kind enough to take the time to answer my questions and provide materials that you will find here and I thank them profusely for lending me their time and memory.
