Saltspring Island Reunion Review (12/31/97)
By Patrick Jacobson
Since they started at 11:30pm and played for an hour and a half, there was a
short rendition of Auld Lang Sign in the middle somewhere too.
During the show, they started off looking pretty stiff, then they relaxed a
little, then they started to really have some fun. Great show! Highlights
were definately "Special Day", "Do You Want To Tell Me?" (the dance floor
got PACKED very quickly!), "Peace Of Mind", "Away", "Rivers Flow" (Kevin's
new one), "Backward Town", "Days" and "Seems Like Fate" (very cool slide
guitar!). I know, that's almost half the show, but it was incredible! Every
song sounded GREAT! The only one's that were lacking a little were "The
Most" (due to the absence of keyboards) and "You May Be Right" (flubbed
guitar line, and also, lack of keyboards). This was the best show I've ever
seen them play (the first time I've seen them play together, mind you).
Ginger never came close, and Kevin's solo material lacked the energy.
Together they made some truly beautiful music. The new songs were ALL very
good.
