Chilliwack / March 19, 1998

By Patrick Jacobson

I had the good fortune of catching the Grapes' Chilliwack show last night (Mar 19th), and just may have been the best one yet. The crowd wasn't as lively as Victoria, but the show was definately more interactive. This time, the band played TWO encores, and they played all four new songs that they had previously played on Saltspring Island. Tom told some stories again, Kevin was smiling ear to ear, and Adam Drake (the new drummer)'s fun personality started to shine through. The setlist was largely the same as Victoria, but the order was mixed up a bit again. Tom and Kevin seem to be enjoying each show more than the last, and I'd say that's a VERY good sign! Biggest goof up of the night? Tom started to tell the audience about the "last time we were in Kamloops" before Kevin reminded him that they were in Chilliwack. "Oh, that's so bad rock! I can't believe I just said that!" was Tom's response. Keeping in good humour, as the band left the stage, Tom chirped, "See you later Penticton!"
