Got to think about what's going on in the race. How we got to where we are. The candidates and the "whys". Seems like the opposing parties had a hand in selecting each others nominees. At least the crossover dems had a say in McCain's ascension and I think the Repubs had a hand in bloodying up the messiah candidate.
What really occurred to me is this. If Odumbo doesn't get elected, there will not be another black as a major party nominee again. Unless, the Republicans bring one onto the stage.
How can I say that? Simple. Look at the dems. You only get one shot at it. Hillary for all intents and purposes should have been the nominee. The party bosses said no, hence we got the guy with Mickey Mouse ears. Why didn't Broomer get it? She has Geraldine Ferraro to thank for that. Her and that super dolt Mondale lost in a 49 state defeat. Look at Gore. So close, but now he is so far. He didn't even take over the party boss slot which was rightfully his after his loss in 2000.
It gets down to one thing for the dems, "Style over Substance". If you're stylish enough this cycle you're "in". When you're out of style, they forget you even existed. Ask John Edwards, if you can find him.
The Homestretch.
In the final leg of this campaign, or in any campaign, things begin to become real clear. At least where the mass media is anyway. Let's look at their biggest fear.
Palin allies report rising campaign tension; Ben Smith Ben Smith; Oct 25, 2008
Every story put out by the mass media falls into one of two categories -- hit piece, or puff piece. There are no exceptions to this rule.
Even as John McCain and Sarah Palin scramble to close the gap in the final days of the 2008 election, stirrings of a Palin insurgency are complicating the campaign's already-tense internal dynamics.
With that in perspective, you already should have come to the conclusion that everything about McCain/Palin is a hit piece, and everything about Obama/Biden is a puff piece.
Those Palin supporters, inside the campaign and out, said Palin blames her handlers for a botched rollout and a tarnished public image - even as others in McCain's camp blame the pick of the relatively inexperienced Alaska governor, and her public performance, for McCain's decline.
They're scared of her more than they are of McModerate. Look at the terminology of this tripe - "handlers", "relatively inexperienced", "McCain's decline". The dirty secret is, if Palin wouldn't have been selected, John McCain would more than likely be totally out of it.
Let's look at the second hit piece, er story.
AP INVESTIGATION: Palin pipeline terms curbed bids; By JUSTIN PRITCHARD and GARANCE BURKE, Associated Press Writers Justin Pritchard And Garance Burke, Associated Press Writers; Oct 25, 2008
They have been investigating her ever since McCain made his surprise selection VP choice. As for the Odumbo camp, they won't go near Tony Rezko, Bill Ayers, Jeremiah Wright, Franklin Raines, and the list goes on and on.
There were never more than a few players that could execute such a complex undertaking - at least a million tons of steel stretching across some of Earth's most hostile and remote terrain.
TransCanada estimates it will cost $26 billion; Palin's consultants estimate nearly $40 billion.
The pipeline would run from Alaska's North Slope to Alberta in Canada; secondary supply lines would take the gas to various points in the United States and Canada. The pipeline would carry 4.5 billion cubic feet of natural gas daily, about 8 percent of the present U.S. market.
And Obama's dream of energy independence is a tire gauge.
Now an illustration of a puff piece.
Biden a reliable running mate amid the stumbles; By NEDRA PICKLER, Associated Press Writer; Oct 25, 2008
The headline says it all. If it weren't so damn serious this would be hilarious. This Biden guy is a total walking gaffe machine completely able to destroy himself and his mate, so the mass media moguls go into "cover up the idiot mode".
The biggest knock against Biden during discussions on whether he would make a good vice presidential nominee was that his mouth tends to get him in trouble. And it has, with Biden recently raising the expectation that Obama would be tested by an international crisis soon after taking office ? a comment that Obama said showed Biden's penchant for "rhetorical flourish."
I really find this appalling. This isn't news reporting, this is an out and out propaganda machine.
But despite the occasional gaffe that's been highlighted, the Obama team says Biden has been a steady asset.
You want a translation on this? Biden is the real drain as a VP candidate and Palin is the asset. If not, then why would the AP go to such great lengths to point out such a huge gaffe? They have to go into damage control whenever Biden opens his mouth.
Since the party conventions, Biden's favorable ratings have steadily gone up. An Associated Press-Yahoo News poll conducted earlier this month found both Biden and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin were viewed favorably by 48 percent of respondents, but his figure was up from 37 percent the previous month, while hers remained about the same as her earlier 47 percent. And her unfavorables were rising, from 28 percent to 39 percent, while his went from 30 percent to 33 percent.
Despite all the hit pieces on Palin she still remains favorable. Sure looks like Biden needs a few more puff pieces to me. The thousands they've done on him so far haven't quite done the job.
