We are quickly moving towards the Democrap convention and we still haven't a clue as to who the veep pick will be. If you want to know the truth, I wouldn't count out a different presidential pick either. This Obama guy has some problems.
So who are you going to believe?
In this first story I will post two accounts from different perspectives. You might be able to figure out who is lieing.
Obama camp cites Pentagon in scrapping troop visit; By DAVID ESPO, AP Special Correspondent; Jul 26, 2008
The Obama camp clearly points the finger at the Pentagon.
DOD spokesman says Obama camp was reminded of political rules; Politico.com; July 25, 2008
The Pentagon clearly states they advised Obama's camp.
So who you gonna believe?
(AP reports) The spokesman, Robert
Gibbs,
said the Air Force several days ago cleared
Obama's chartered campaign jet to land at
Ramstein Air Base. It was only Wednesday
night, two days before the planned visit, that
Pentagon officials conveyed their views, he
said, and Obama decided not to go.
Of course the Pentagon is evil and run by the
Bush organization. They certainly are to
blame.
(Politico.com reports) "Sen. Obama is welcome to visit Landstuhl or any military hospital in his official capacity as a United States senator," Morrell said in a brief interview. "But there is a DOD policy which governs campaigning and electioneering at military facilities that would have to be respected if he were to visit. That distinction was relayed and made clear to campaign, and they made a decision on their own based on that guidance."
And politico.com further states:
Morrell, in a subsequent interview, added that military officials told Obama he could only visit the military facility with his Secret Service detail and Senate staff.
"We made it clear to him that campaign staff and press would not be permitted to accompany him," Morrell said of Obama. "We relayed those ground rules. They made a choice based upon the information we relayed to them. It was their choice. We had nothing to do with it."
Simply, visitation is not a problem, you just can't bring the travelling press entourage in with you.
(AP further reports) But after hearing from the Pentagon, he said, "We decided, Senator Obama decided having made that decision he was far more willing to take the criticism from some political people or political opponents in a political atmosphere than to put our troops in the middle of our campaign back and forth."
A real clear statement of doublespeak. Let me translate that for you. No press allowed, I ain't going. After all, what is a photo op tour without all the cameras?
The List ....
For all of you loyal readers of mine, I posted some comments long ago when the Broom Lady dropped out of the race that Obama had her on his list. I said the list wasn't the short list, but it did start with "s-h".
Clinton doesn't seem to be high on Obama's list; By Adam Nagourney; International Herald Tribune; July 29, 2008
Guess I was right. She will never be on the ticket with Mr. and Mrs. Obama. They want no part of the Broomer's baggage. I'm not talking only about her political garbage, but Billie-bob is some real baggage they can do without.
When Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton abandoned her bid for the presidency and endorsed Senator Barack Obama in June, she made clear that she was interested in becoming his running mate, and Obama and his associates signaled respectfully that she would get full consideration.
She also made it clear she wanted some help in retiring her campaign debt.
When Obama appeared Sunday on "Meet the Press" on NBC he offered a description of the kind of person he was looking for - hinting that it would not be someone who was identified strongly with Washington, a choice that would appear to leave out Clinton - that his associates said reflected the lack of serious thought being given to Clinton for the post.
This will not go down well the the Clintonites.
Clinton's boosters have not given up. "If he picks Hillary he gets her 18 million supporters and we would win in a cakewalk and control the White House for 16 years," Terry McAuliffe, who was the chairman of her campaign, said Sunday in an interview.
Plus or minus 4 million voters who crossed over from the Republican primaries to propel the Broomer's campaign.
Obama's advisers say that a central message of his campaign - that he would represent a break from the way politics are conducted in Washington - would be tarnished by the simple act of linking himself to the family that has dominated Democratic politics since Bill Clinton won the presidency in 1992.
Need I say more? Obama has kept his ear to the ground on this one. Well, really, he always has an ear to the ground. Right Dumbo?
