The history of Ancient Egypt streches back 3000 years into the past, and is divided into about 8 periods and these are known as Kingdoms. These different sections are believed to have started with the Early Dynastic Period then came the Old Kingdom, the 1st Intermediate Period, the Middle Kingdom, the 2nd Intermediate Period, the New Kindom, the Late Dynastic Period and ended with the Greek Roman Period. Within these periods or Kingdoms, many events took place, these include:

Early Dynastic Period: This Period is thought to of lasted for a period of 500 years or more at the beginning of what is considered as the history of Ancient Egypt. It was during this period that the divine kingship became well established as Egypt's form of government, and with it, an entire culture that would remain virtually unchanged for the next 3000 or more years.

Old Kingdom: Suddenly Egypt found itself wealthy; the country literally exploded with creativity for the next several generations. This period, from 2650-2134 , the Old Kingdom, was the richest and most creative period in Egyptian history. All the pyramids were built at this time; the growth in population and wealth allowed the kings to apportion vast amounts of labor and materials to these monuments to themselves.

1st Intermediate Period: The 1st Intermediate Period marked a much wider spread of the culture of the Pharaohs throughout the country. During the Early Dynastic Period and the Old Kingdom, the typical Pharaonic culture had been limited to the royal court and the elite surrounding it. The increased power of the nomarchs during the 1st Intermediate Period continued and solidified the process of the spreading culture of the Pharaohs, ensuring that the Pharaonic culture would survive the decline of the Old Kingdom and into the 1st Intermediate Period.

Middle Kingdom: The 1st Intermediate Period came to an end in the year 2040 and this was the year that the Middle Kingdom began. The Middle Kingdom lasted in Egypt from the year 2040 all the way to 1640 and during this period of time Egypt once again became a prospering nation. There are, however, indications of dynastic problems. The last king of the 11th dynasty, Mentuhotep IV, was omitted from later king lists, which might indicate that he was considered an usurper.

2nd Intermediate Period: Sometimes known as "The Age Of The Hyskos". This period ran from 1640 to 1540. The Hyskos were a group of Asian origin who seized control of Egypt for this period whilst the rulers of the previous period within Egyptian history was being overthrown, this group of people went on to impose their rule on all of Egypt.

New Kingdom: Sometimes know as "The Age Of Empires". Ahmose, in the year 1522, was the start of a series of conquests that would bring Egypt peace and prosperity. In an attempt to secure the borders of Egypt against any future invasions, Ahmose went on to conquer a territory stretching from Syria in the North, to Nubia situated in the South. Within a few decads, Egypt became the most powerful nation in the Ancient Near East.

Late Dynastic Period: This period spanned straight through Dynasties 21 to 30 and from years 1070 - 332. Fueds between the Dynasties and also the increased levels of power of priests from the land of Thebes meant that Egypt as a country was unable to cope with the changeing political situation. As a result of this Egypt were left open to Nubian attack and also led to Egypt losing the title of the most powerful nation.

Greek-Roman Period: This period began when Egypt was conqered by "Alexander The Great", the successors of Alexanter the Great who were known as the Ptolemies went on to rule Egypt for a considerable period of time and brought back to Egypt the high held name the country once had. This period also provides us with some of the Amazing temples and buildings which can still be seen in Egypt today.
