Presenting:
LAUREL
My page appears first. It's not because I'm the tallest, the smartest, or the best, but I am the Web Master. As Web Master, I can chose who goes first.
Allow me to tell you about myself. I was born on February 22, 1929 in a little village called Detour. Detour is located at the eastern most point of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. When the road ends, you are there. I was born in my grandmother's house, the second of five children.
I answer to many names. I am Laurel, Mom, Grama, Sister, Dammit Ma, Laurel Jeanne, and one I'd rather not mention. My life is filled with remarkable people. I am blessed with many loyal and caring friends and a wonderful family. I have four children and 7 grandchildren. I never eat oatmeal, and I like burned toast.
I often travel to far off places. I usually take my bicycle. Once upon a time, I rode in downtown Shanghai at rush hour, with a million other cyclists. We had to ride like swimming fish, weaving in and out of traffic. It was a serious test of our skill and extremely exciting.
I enjoy participating in International Folk Dancing. Learning and performing dances from other cultures is challenging and interesting. I dance with three groups, the Whetstone Folk Dancers, The Columbus Folk Dancers, and The English Country Dancers. Folk Dancers are regular performers at the Columbus International Festival. The Whetstone Folk Dancers, sometimes accept invitations to perform at other functions, providing enough dancers are available.
We are always happy to welcome new dancers. All of the groups conduct weekly classes for beginners. It is not necessary to bring a partner. Check out the Recreational Folk Dancers of Columbus Web Site below:

I work as a volunteer for Columbus Outdoor Pursuits, a local organization that promotes outdoor activities for individuals and families. This is a great club. It's members come, in a variety of shapes, sizes and ages. Give it a try. You can check out the club's Web Site,

Occasionally, I join the Granny Gears to "do the trash bags" for Picnic at the POPS, a summer concert series put on by the Columbus Symphony Orchestra. During the lull between our excursions to tend the trash, we enjoy a fancy picnic supper, good wine, and fair to middlin' music.
My favorite activities are:
