Dear colleagues,

It’s a well-known fact that knowledge of foreign languages gives you a lot of opportunities and advantages. It helps people set up cultural and economic relations . That’s why one of the characteristic features of life in Ukraine is a great interest in studying foreign languages , especially English.

There is no doubt that English is the international language .There are about 1.5 billion people in the world who can speak English. It has become the world’s most important language in politics , science , trade and relations. English is one of the official languages in thirty countries . It is one of the six official languages of the United Nations Organisation and other international political structures. Half of the world’s scientific literature is in English. It is the main language of the computer technologies. More than 80% of any kind of information is stored and exchanged in English.

English is a wonderful language. It is the language if the great literature. It is the language of William Shakespeare, Jonathan Swift , Walter Scott, Charles Dickens.

In order to understand your mother tongue you should study English and other foreign languages.

There are also some artificial languages. The most widely spread one is Esperanto. It was created in 1887 by the Polish physician and polyglot L.Zamengof on the basis of international lexicon with simple grammar. It consists of components of several languages , and is intended to help people from different countries communicate with each other. Esperanto has its supporters in many countries. But no artificial language will be able to replace a natural one.

Learning a foreign language needs hard work from a learner, who is expected to practise speaking every day : with friends , teachers, classmates, native speakers, if possible.

One should use the internet resources to improve his or her grammar , vocabulary , and spelling skills.

Your pronunciation could be improved with the help of various pronunciation practice cassettes, radio programmes , cassette-recorders etc.

Much depends upon the learner, upon his or her attitude and motivation.
