| Back in Malaya. Posted to 76 Field Squadron, Federation Engineers, It was the first Engineer unit established in 1953. Having undergone several name changes it is now 1 Engr Sqn, RAJD. Most of my time was spend on road construction, First the Chemor - Sungei Siput Road in Perak follewed by the Naka - Nami Road in Kedah. |

| Sqn moves to Bidor, I (standing 3rd from left) am posted to 2nd Inf Bde in Ipoh as GSO 3./ IO. My friends Arul (3rd from right) and Asna (extreme right) who were with me at Pre-OCTU, Eaton Hall and Sandurst were there for company. Seated in the centre is Brig Upjohn. He was replaced Gen Tungku Osman Jewa, the 1st Malaysian to become a Bde commander and subequently became the 1st Chief of The Armed Forces Staff. Picture below (L to R) Gen Hamid. | Send to Alor Star as GSO 3 Border Ops. Hardly a few months, seleted to attend Staff College in Australia and had to pack up in a hurry to leave.But having handed over my job and was about to leave was told the course has been delayed and was ordered totake command of the construction of the road from Bentong to to the Bilut Vally project. Tun Razak's 1st "Resettlement Scheme". Each settler was given 10 acres of land to develop and it turned out to be a success. |

| Tunku Abdul Rahman's efforts in trying to obtain independence for Malaya ended successfully when on 31st August 1957 when Malaya became independent from foreign rule in some form or other since 1511. |
