GAME 4

JETS 3 TAMPA BAY 2
Kolanos Scores In Overtime To Give Jets 3-2 Win

The Jets make first appearance in Winnipeg since 1996 for a sold- out crowd.

Caron makes good on his first start in goal, stopping 31 of 33 shots.
Khabibulin faced 42 shots, stopping all but 3.

The Jets second line picks up 5 of 7 points as Fata picks up 1 goal, Koltsov picks up 2 assists and Kolanos tallies one of each.

1st Period
11:04- WIN Fata Assisted by Kolanos, Koltsov

The game play was slow in the 1st period, and both teams were playing terrific defense. Neither team wanted to be the first to let a goal in, as both teams came into the game as offensive threats. The first real action came when Winnipeg received a powerplay opportunity when Richards was called for hooking. Lemieux set up Tkachuk for a powerful slapper from the left circle, and the rebound was loose until Khabibulin dove on top to cover it up. Winnipeg was not able to put the puck past the acrobatic Khabibulin.

Only minutes later Fata caught a pass from Kolanos spanning the neutral zone and shot from just over the blue line. The puck went over the goaltenders right shoulder as he jumped on his kness to make the body save. 1-0 Jets

The Lightning got a chance to strike back after both Tkachuk and Eastwood each received penalties at the 15:33 mark. Tampa Bay was unable to convert on the 5-3 powerplay because of some terrific defense and the clearing efforts of defenseman Orpik and Tverdovsky.

The 1st period came to and end just as quitely as it started, with neither team getting any good scoring opportunities.

2nd Period
02:04- WIN Morozov (SH)

The Jets were able to collect their second SH goal in 4 games after a roughing penalty was called on Lemieux at the 01:09 mark. With a well- timed hit on defenseman Cory Sarich, RW Aleksey Morozov was able to skate down the entire length of ice unchallenged. Morozov pulled off a graceful triple deke as he sent the puck top shelf on the diving Khabibulin. 2-0 Jets

The breakaway goal seemed to stir up some aggression as 20 seconds later Tkachuk and Sarich dropped the gloves to square off in the neutral zone, both receiving fighting majors.

Both teams continued to play excellent defense, and the scoring ceased for rest of the period, with neither teams getting any good chances on net.

3rd Period
16:06- TAM Clymer
17:21- TAM Roy Assisted by Alexeev, Kubina

The third period was equally as quite as the first two, and it seemed that Caron would get a shutout with his first chance in goal. Everything was quiet until 16:06, when a surprise shot from Clymer went off the head of Caron and rebounded into the net. The shot caught the goaltender off guard, as Clymer picked up the puck on a mis-timed Winnipeg line change. Clymer picked up the puck off the skates of the changing Jets players and fired the puck from the left side of the blueline. Caron never saw it coming.2-1 Jets

Caron must have lost his concentration, because only 1 minute and 15 seconds later Roy, off a pass from Alexeev was able to squeek the puck past the left side of Caron with a weak shot. The home crowd was stunned as the Jets blew a 2-0 lead, with less than 4 minutes to play. Caron was able to regain his concentration enough to finish off the period.

Overtime
09:10 WIN Kolanos Assisted by Koltsov, Orpik

The Jets came into overtime with a fury, insisting on not allowing Tampa Bay to steal their homecoming win.

Things got exciting at the 4:02 mark when Morozov was called for charging. Once again the Jets were able to hold off the PP, and stopped the fifth Tampa PP of the night.

It seemed that the NHL was going to see the first overtime shootout, since changing the overtime type to a 10 minute clock with a shootout if neither team could net a goal.

With less than a minute left in overtime Koltsov let a one-time shot rip from the slot off a pass from Orpik. Khabibulin made a diving save, and the rebound was let loose in the slot. With a burst of speed Kolanos was able to pick up the puck and wrist it in the empty net for an exciting overtime win.

The Jets extended their win streak to 4 games, and gave the fans a real nail-biter with their first game back in Winnipeg.

"There's nothing like a big win in front of your home crowd," said Coach Ducaine. "The only difference is these fans haven't seen a home win in years. These boys really wanted to win here in Winnipeg tonight, and they came out with the will to do to just that, they deserved this game. I think these fans definately got their money's worth."
