| Jets Fly By Boston In 6-0 Win The Bruins served as little more than shooting practice for the Jets tonight as Morozov tallied 2 goals, Koltsov and Lemieux each added 1 goal and 2 assists, and Tkachuk and Fata each tapped in 1 goal apeice. Fleury also continued solid play as he recorded a shutout and has now only allowed 1 goal in the last two games. The game was a real bone- grinder from the beggining, with both teams hitting hard all night long. Lemieux seemed to be a target as he was laid out 3 seperate times during the game. This didn't sit well with the Jets, and a number of fights broke out during play. The scoring started early as Tkachuk was the first to score at the 17:20 mark with a rebound shot following up Lemieux's blocked wrister attempt. 1-0 Jets CONTINUED... Tkachuk's goal was only the beginning as Morozov recieved a pass from Lemieux and blasted in a slapper from the top of the right circle over the shoulder of Potvin at the 14:02 mark. 2-0 Jets After the face off Boston cycled the puck around in the Jets zone for half a minute or so until Samsonov saw an opening and passed the puck to Murray who let a quick one- timer rip but got nothing but right post. The Jets recovered the puck and almost immediately Lemieux was dropped from a hit as well as Fata being clotheslined by Lapointe. Fata got back to his feet in time to drop the gloves, only to get a few punches in. The puck stayed in the Boston zone for about 2 minutes as Potvin fought off about 5 shots. The puck was passed back to Tverdovsky and he quickly passed it over to Morozov who took another slapper 5 feet in from the blue line. This time the puck went off Potvin's shoulder, off the crossbar, and off Potvin's back before finally coming to rest in the back of the net. 3-0 Jets at the 18:47 mark. The beginning of the second period started off even more rough than the first. Lemieux saw himself on his back once again thanks to a hit from Samsonov, and Tkachuk quickly went after Samsonov and landed a barrage of punches which quickly saw his opponent kissing the ice. Boston had little in the way of shots, and even less quality scoring chances until a well placed hit on Morozov created a 2 on 1 situation. Gonchar made a beautiful pass to Knuble who made a quick wrister only to have it kicked away and cleared by the approaching defenseman. Only minutes later Knuble was stripped once again in front of the net with a poke check by Yuchkevich. Lemieux was the next to tally a goal off a wrister on the PP, after a roughing penalty was called on Rolston for smashing Lemieux into the corner. Lemieux's wrister was tallied in at the 18:20 mark to give the Jets a 4 goal lead. Potvin was releaved from goal as Raycroft stepped in to take his place.. The 3rd period wasn't any better for Boston as both Fata and Koltsov tallied in a goal in the first 10 minutes. More rough play and penalties ensued after a Bergeron hit on Yuchkevich was avenged by Beech, as he checked Begeron in to the net, breaking it loose at the 8:47 mark. Boston was unable to put a goal past Fleury, and the buzzer indicated the end of the game at the same time Roston was sent over the boards by Tkachuk. Thus ending one of the more physical games in recent memory. Boston never even brought their offensive game, and the discipline breakdown only lead to more embarrassment. Winnipeg should have never been allowed to score 6 goals. Boston came into this game only collecting one goal in their first game, and has now only scored 1 goal in two games, while letting in a total of 9. Meanwhile Winnipeg has tallied 9 goals and let in 1. So far Winnipeg is firing on all cylinders, with a powerful offense and top notch goaltending. |
