| Jets Cash-In On New Aquisitions Both Tverdovsky and Yushkevich picked up an assist on Lemiux's game winning goal in the third period. The Jets made a triumpful return to the NHL in tonights 3-1 victory in Florida. The game started off rough from the first faceoff, as Tkachuk shoved Odelein to the ice and a fight broke out 5 seconds into the game. Tkachuk made quick work of Odelein and they both recieved fighting majors. Both Fluery and Luongo played outstanding in goal, neither giving up any easy shots. The game was scoreless until Tkachuk's unassisted goal at 16:38 in the 2nd period. Tkachuk picked off a bad pass by Krajicek in the Panthers zone, took two steps and put a wrister past the left side of Luongo. CONTINUED... As the game went into the third period the excitement picked up as well as the scoring. 24 seconds into the 3rd period E.Messier mowed down Lemieux from behind in the neutral zone. Lemieux looked pretty shaken up, and the Jets were relieved to see him get up again. On the power play Beech made a perfect pass from the right circle to Lemiex down in front, which made it passed Luongo only to be stopped by the left post. The Jets could not convert on the power play. The Panthers picked up their only goal at the 2:57 mark when Messier make a poke check on Kolanos and passed the puck back to Samuelsson for a 2 on 1 play which resulted in a rebound goal by Cullen. The 1-1 tie was broken less then 4 minutes later when a shot by Yushkevich went wide of the goal, bouncing off the glass to Tverdovsky. Tverdovsky made a quick pass to Lemieux in the slot and Lemieux wristed the puck past Luongo to make it 2-1 Jets. One minute later Lemieux was stoned on a break-away attempt as Luongo came out of the net to stop the goal. With less than 3 minutes left rookie Horace Keller shot a sizzling wrister that was grabbed by Luongo as he fell on his back and made the catch with his glove. Then at the 18:07 mark, Beech made a top shelf shot on Luongo with a nice outlet pass from Strbak to make the game 3-1. The remaining time was spent in the Jets zone as Fleury made repeated saves on the Panthers desperate attempt to put a goal in, no luck for Florida as Fleury covered up in the remaining seconds for the win.
