The Honda Civic is a small, sporty 3-door car. It has very good roadholding and is quite fast compared to other cars of the same size and prize. It was first introduced to the swedish market in early spring 1988 and was sold until the next generation came in early 1992. There was at first 2 different versions: 1.5 GL and the 1.6i and later in 1990, came a model called 1.3 with 75 hp, That model will not be covered here. The Civic shares a lot of components with the CRX model. For instance the complete chassie is the same for the 1.6i but the 1.5 GL has a few differences like no antirollbar in front and smaller wheels/tires. The Honda Civic was concidered very technically advanced when it was introduced and it still is today, more than 10 years later. Engine The engine is an 4 cylinder engine With Single Overhead Camshafts (SOHC) and 4 valves per cylinder. The cylinder block is made of aluminum alloy and the pistons are made extremely light to minimize the weight. It also has Programmed fuel injection (PGM-FI) with an 8-bit digitalcomputer controlling and optimizing the fuel/air mixture. The 1.6i has 4 injectors and produces 110 hp at 6300 rpm and 134 Nm at 5200 rpm and the 1.5 GL with 2 injectors gives 94 hp at 6000 rpm and 121 Nm at 4500 rpm. Exterior The exterior difference between 1.6i and 1.5 GL is that the 1.6 i has painted metal bumpers instead of the boring black plastic. The wheels on the 1.6 i have fewer holes and doesn't look so cheap as the 1.5 GL wheels. The 1.6i also has a red panel between the taillights and double chromed exhaustpipes. Wheel suspension The wheelsuspension on the Civic is the same as for the CRX and has a system of double wishbones both at the front and rear suspension. This configuration is not very common on todays cars, and was very unusual 10 years ago. It is a tecnique often used in racingcars. You can se how it looks on the pictures below.
