Cub Scout Promise

I, (say your name), promise to

DO MY BEST

To do my DUTY to GOD

And my COUNTRY

To HELP other people, and

To OBEY the Law of the Pack.

PROMISE

When you promise to do something, you mean you will do it. Even if it is hard, a Scout keeps his promise. He wants people to believe him.
DO MY BEST

When you say, "I will do my best," you mean, "I will try as hard as I can." One boy's best can be better than another boy's best. Den Leaders do not expect you to be perfect, but they want you to do your best.
DO MY DUTY

When you do your duty, you do your share. You do what you ought to do.
Your duty to God is done with God's help. It means you practive your religion at home, in church or synagogue or other religious group, in everthing you do.
Your duty to your country means being a good American. You obey the laws. You help your community in any way you can. You are a good citizen.
HELP OTHER PEOPLE

This means thinking about other people and their needs. Sometimes this is not easy. But a Webelos Scout will help others when he can.

Law of the Pack

The Cub Scout follows Akela.

The Cub Scout helps the pack go.

The pack helps the Cub Scout grow.

The Cub Scout Gives goodwill.

"THE CUB SCOUT FOLLOWS AKELA"

  Who is Akela? (Say Ah-kay-'la.)
Akela is the Scout name for a good leader. Some of the people you may call Akela are your father or mother, your teacher, your den chief, your den leader, your Cubmaster, or anybody who is a good leader.
Good leaders first learn to follow. That's why the first part of the Law of the Pack asks you to learn to follow. Follow good leaders. Follow Akela.

"THE CUB SCOUT HELPS THE PACK GO"

When you become a Scout, you are no longer just a boy. You are a member of a den and a pack. You can't think only of yourself, but you must think of your fellow Cub Scouts.
Help the pack GO by attending all meetings, by following the leaders, and by making your pack better in every way because you are in it.
"THE PACK HELPS THE CUB SCOUT GROW

You'll like the den and the fun of earning activity badges. Working on the ones you like will help you learn new skills and new ways of doing things.
"THE CUB SCOUT GIVES GOODWILL"

Goodwill means kindness and cheerfulness. The Scout is always looking for things to do for other people. Not big jobs but little things that help.
Smile and help-those are two fine Scout words.

Cub Scout Handshake

When you shake hands with another Cub Scout hold your right hand just as you usually would to shake hands. But put your first two fingers along the inside of the other fellow's wrist. This means that both of you will help others and obey the law of the pack.

Cub Scout Sign

Make the sign with your righ hand straight above your shoulder. This is the sign of the Cub Scout all over the world. The two top fingers stand for the two parts of the Promise- Help and Obey. Give the sign whenever you repeat the Promise or Law of the Pack.

Cub Scout Motto

"DO YOUR BEST." That's the Cub Scout motto. Another boy may do something better than you do it, but if you do your best you need not be ashamed.

Cub Scout Salute

Hold your fingers as you do for the sign, except that the first two fingers are together. Salute the U.S. flag during ceremonies.
Sometimes you may also salute your leaders or other Scouts to show goodwill and courtesy.
