| September 11, 2001 will be remembered as one of the most horrifying and sad days in the history of our free world. As a Canadian, I am totally taken aback by the actions of these terrorists against humankind. While I do not underplay the absolute terror & sadness that Americans are experiencing, I believe this was an attack against the world as a whole. The majority shares the same feelings of shock, disbelief, profound sadness and grief as our friends from the United States. It is at times like this I feel ashamed that humanity has not been able to protect children from growing up in the belief that it is okay to hate, kill or injure fellow human beings. In fact, I am deeply saddened because I know that people who stoop to such lowness have indeed been trained since birth, and it is so very depressing to know that we have not protected those children from madmen who preach and teach such hatred. It is my hope that the decent people of the world will not stoop to these levels, for we are an intelligent and reasonable breed of humans. We will not hate an entire race because of the actions of a small minority of people. It is easy to react with anger. However, we should be smart enough to realize that if one or two, or even ten apples on the tree have been infested by worms, it does not mean the whole tree is tainted. The same goes for people. There are good and bad in every race, colour and creed. Let us not place ourselves in the same position of claimed power as our enemies. Let us continue to love each other and believe in one another. I beg everyone to channel their hatred, anger and sadness into more constructive ways than our enemies. Instead of taking, let us give - blood, money, food, time, clothing, or prayers. It is the act of giving of ourselves which will save us from our enemies and let us live with a lighter heart. I beg you all...do not stoop as low as these ignorant, uncaring low individuals. Thank you! |
