This is a poem I wrote when I was just breaking into my teen years. I was having trouble sleeping one night shortly before Christmas, so I pulled out my notebook and just started writing. I have not edited the poem since, as I preferr to keep it the way I wrote it at the time. I was a child with a dream...hence my poem....

A Child's Dream
A little girl sat at her window
To wish upon a star.
She listened and heard the wind blow,
Bringing the snow from afar.
Christmas Eve was dawning,
And Santa Claus had been.
The little girl was yawning
From the sleepy snow she'd seen.
She touched the cold, frosty window
And smelled her Christmas tree;
She knelt and cried, even though
She knew what her wish would be.
"Dear Santa - if you can hear me
Please listen while I pray,"
Then she smiled sweetly.
"For it's nearly Christmas Day."
"Sweet Jesus, I only ask one thing
On your Holy day of love.
Please make Jolly Santa bring
Something special from above."
"Give the deaf their hearing,
And give the blind their sight.
Let the dumb talk and sing
Just for Christmas night!"
"I know that there's a reason
In everything you do -
But please let them have some fun.
It will make you happy, too."
"Santa can be jolly,
And I could have some fun,
If the poor could have my dolly
And the lame could walk and run."
Then the little angel
Fell asleep while she prayed.
Jesus gave a smile
Turned to Santa and He said,
"Santa, we'll work on that one.
Those children in her dreams
Will smile and have lots of fun,
And run, and laugh and scream."
Christmas morning came by and by,
And no-one really knew
Why the little girl had a tear in her eye,
With a smile on her tiny face too.
