Autumn Time

Autumn Roses

The very first hint of Autumn
Is seen on the garden shed:
The old Virginia Creeper
Is turning a beautiful red.

Late September's leaves
Drift slowly to the ground,
Forming a colorful carpet
As they fall without a sound.

The fading Summer sunshine
Turns to autumnal glow,
Yet, amongst the rustic tapestry,
Roses still make a glorious show.

Though soon their petals will fall,
With Winter drawing near,
Until then they stay to remind us,
They'll bloom again next year.

What Autumn Means to Me

The changing of the seasons is one of the most pleasant parts of living in my area. Although each season has its own wonderful characteristics, autumn is the best. With its cooler weather, brightly colored leaves and Thanksgiving, autumn is filled with enchanting events.

After the hot and humid days of summer, the cool drier weather of autumn is a welcome relief. The nights become quite cold bringing frost to paint the landscape a glittering silver. The days then warm up and with the lower humidity outdoor activities are delightful.

Walking through the neighborhood and local parks is most enjoyable during the autumn months. The trees are ablaze with color. The color of autumn leaves range in color from pale yellow to deep dark crimson. As the leaves fall to the ground they create a colorful path and breathtaking landscape.

Autumn has always meant Thanksgiving to me. A holiday that is tailor-made for families. It is a long day of food, family and football. Most families get together for a large meal of turkey, stuffing, potatoes, gravy, cranberries, vegetables and pies. Afterwards the women talk as the men watch football; all complaining that they ate too much.

Yes, autumn is my favorite season of the year. Cooler dryer weather makes for pleasing days to enjoy the outdoors. Beautiful leaves add to the delight. Finally, Thanksgiving to enjoy with families makes for a wonderful time of the year.
