Information regarding:     Southern Discount and Finance Corporation, and related information regarding the research of legally purchased
                                             endorsed stock certificates from 1934.

Stocks can be viewed at:  www.hspowerusa.net/stocks.

They have been downloaded to this site,  so each certificate can be viewed with the resolution available. The reason behind the research of these stocks stems mainly because I was told by an employee of the SEC in Atlanta, that it is unheard of to have original stock certificates of this age, with the actual certificate endorsed and notarized, but, left blank.  He stated that he had never heard of any such circumstance before.
He also said, "Don't give up on them until someone has actually shown you official documentation that shows they no longer are in existence."  He said that there
will be alot of people who are going to tell you they are worthless, but, keep digging until you prove otherwise.

Southern Discount and Finance corporation:
incorporated  1934
24  Drayton st. #308
Savannah, Ga.

President:   A. King Dixon
Secretary:   Bert Kooden

*listed in the Savannah city directory at this address from 1936-1940

A. King Dixon was raised in Savannah to a wealthy family with dealings in icehouses and nickelodeons. He Incorporated Equitable Building and Loan Assoc. in 1926.  He was the named president and Bert Kooden was the vice-president.   It appears that Equitable Building and Loan Assoc., operated in the Savannah area for a few years.  A. King Dixon then opened   Southern Discount and Finance Corp.  in 1934.  He remained the President of this new corporation.  It is unclear whether the loans outstanding from Equitable Building were transfered to Southern Discount.   A. King Dixon also ran for mayor of Savannah, in 1936, but lost the race.  He also owned and operated the Savannah Daily Times(local newspaper).   This newspaper ran from the late 30's until 1940-1941.  The papers are archived in the library at University of Georgia-Athens.   In mid to late 1941 his newspaper stated that A. King Dixon was attempting to report some type of crime or injustice   going on in the Savannah area.  For this he was beat up and hospitalized.  After leaving the hospital, A.King Dixon packed up his wife and 5 year old son and moved out of town.  He joined the armed services and remained in the Army until the end of WWII.   At the end of the war, A. King Dixon did not return to Savannah to resume his Newspaper(which had a good sized circulation), Nor did he resume his role in running Southern Discount(which seems to have stopped operating the same time he entered the armed services).   Mr. Dixon packed up his family and moved again this time to South Carolina.  Here Mr. Dixon also met
with success,  He assumed a role in the state government(a representative to the house and later he became Commissioner of the Highway Department).  It appear that A.King Dixon passed away in 1983 he was survived by many children.  One of which is, A. King Dixon Jr. who lives in Laurens, SC(864-682-3374)  We have spoken with A. King Dixon Jr.on several occasions trying to jar his memory.  He states that he remembers that his father had a very lucrative business in  Savannah but, remembers that they had to leave Savannah in a hurry.  That his father owned a newspaper,  and that he came from a wealthy family.  He stated that his Grandparents came from the Wisconsin/Minnesota area and were land purveyors and owners.  That they shipped ice to Their Savannah icehouses.  He also confirmed that his uncle was also in the nickelodeon business until motion pictures became popular.   Also of note,  he stated that upon his fathers death in 1983 it was found that he owned stock in C&S bank.  It appears that these stocks were worth a considerable amount of money.  Do not know if there is any connection to SD&FC(Southern Discount and Finance Corp.).
It appears that not as much information has been found on Burt Kooden.  It is known that in or around 1940-41 Mr. Kooden moved himself and his family to San Diego, CA.  It appears that he had no prior ties to this area, and no known relatives living is this area. Only known relatives are Lewis Kooden-nephew and Michael D,. Kooden-nephew.
