| The Detroit Tigers took a huge step in 2006. In fact the step they took would be equivelent to that of Armstrong stepping onto the moon. After being once again a very bad team in 2005, the Tigers went to the World Series in 2006. In the American League Championship game, Magglio Ordonez hit a walk off Home Run to take them into the World Series. Kenny Rogers put away his history of falling apart after the All-star break and ended the season strong. Including keeping oponents scoreless in the post season. Justin Verlander, in his first season, pitched like a veteran and was even in the running for the Cy Young award. Joel Zumaya, a rookie relief pitcher was superb. His 103 mph fastball caused some comotion with the fans. There are so many players I could talk about. They all did their jobs and gave the fans one great season to hold dear. The Tigers have added Gary Sheffield to their roster for 2007! Sheffield is a .300+ hitter and should easily hit 30+ homeruns as well. If he stays healthy that is, and by all reports he will be healthy to start the new season. |
